Alchemy of Dark Swords

The game mechanism in Dark Swords provides lots of possibilities for items creation and improvment by players themselves. The following technologies are available: health and mana elixirs preparation, reifnorcement of magic wands and armour - in the form of elemental magic resistance increasing, and wizard staves improvement, as well as intermediate production processes with their results are the components which are used in other processes (often called "runes"). The initial materials for many alchemic technologies and for the production of runes are the remains of inhabitants and monsters and other items which can be bought in the dumps at the junkman's shop.

Creating and upgrading items is done in the special location of Laboratory. The appropriate recipe and necessary components which are mentioned in the recipe are required for the production of an item. The recipe may be read in the following locations: Scroll shop and Laboratory with the help of button READ or laboratory interface. Keep in mind that the recipe itself is one of the components of production or reinforcement of an item.

While making runes, health and mana potions they are the results of the process of making health potions, mana elixirs and runes. Reinforcement of the armour pieces allows to increase the resistance for either of elements. This kind of improvement could be made to ordinary and rare as well as to artifacts, but not to weapon; the earlier mentioned runes are a component in the process. The value of items transformed in this way increases, although this doesn't apply to the artifact platinum value.

Improvement of a wizards' staff means the increase of (chance to cast) and is done in 3 stages: basic, when ordinary or rare staff (one that has bonus for some parameter or characteristic) gets a small increase to this parameter turning into «low staff». Then on the second stage: from «low» staff and other components we get «medium», which increases Sorcery chance more. On the third and the last stage «medium» staff processed in the same way improving chance to cast by a considerable value becoming a «hight». The value of the staff also grows in stages.

Depending on the level of the "basic" item while improving the equipment to adding the additional Elemental resistance and staves (for Sorcery chance increase) one needs recipes for different levels (they are called recipe «for n-th level») and, of course, different components.

Production of magical wands - items which increase the resistance to elemental magic and are used as shields - is a totally different kind in Alchemy system. Besides runes staves of certain type, are needed for the production of this kind of items. It depends on the level of the item produced (for example Thief staff is needed for the 10th level wand; Barbarian staff - for 50th level). The type of staff which is used in the production is always the same for the appropriate level and does not depend on the element resistance the stick will provide.

Actions with modified items

In the game world of DarkSwords modified or "miraculous" items (detailed: here), can often be found, but the level of items or its type in many cases do not satisfy the needs of users. For the convenience of players and for extention of possibilities of characters’ strengthening, the „system of extracts” was developed. It is possible for you to „extract" modificator from one thing and to "inculcate" it to another.

To "extract" modificator and to transform it to essence you need to buy an "Extractor", that is available in platinum alchemical shops. In Laboratory it is needed to put an Extractor and Modified thing, out of which you wish to „extract” modificator, on the "table". When pressed the button Brew, the process of extraction begins. A sucessful result of the proccess depends on the outcome of the modified thing. In case of successful result the "Extract" of modification appears, that can be used further for any other things.

Attention! Extractor (platinum item) does not escape and doesn’t lose its qualities after it’s been used. It can be used any number of times.

To "add" modificator to existing thing (armour, clothes, artefact) it is needed to buy " the Table of Alchemist" in the shop of scrolls on appropriate level (depending on the level of the thing changed). In Laboratory you need "to put on the table" the Extract and the item you wish to modify. The table must be in your backpack. When pressing the button BREW you will get a modified item (with 100% chance).
